Macrophone

Support

Most problems have a quick fix below. If yours doesn't, email macrophone@sameer.us and include diagnostics if you can.

My iPhone can’t find my Mac#

  • Is Macrophone running on the Mac? Look for its icon in the menu bar. If it's missing, open it from Applications.
  • Local Network permission. On the iPhone, open Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and make sure Macrophone is on.
  • Wi-Fi on both. They work best on the same network. They can also connect directly when they're near each other, but Wi-Fi must be on on both devices.
  • The Mac's firewall. If it's on, open System Settings › Network › Firewall › Options and allow incoming connections for Macrophone.
  • Work networks and VPNs. Some networks block devices from seeing each other, and some VPNs route local traffic away. Try with the VPN off, or bring the phone close to the Mac so they can connect directly.

Nothing is lost while you sort it out: dictations wait in the phone's queue and arrive once the Mac is found.

Pairing doesn’t work#

  • Scanning needs camera access on the iPhone. If you said no earlier, turn it on in Settings › Macrophone › Camera, or choose Use a code instead.
  • Pairing codes expire after a few minutes and allow a few tries. If it stops accepting, start pairing again on the Mac to get a fresh code.
  • If you replaced or reset a device, remove the old pairing on both sides (Forget… in the Devices pane on the Mac, and the matching option in the iPhone app's Settings) and pair again.

Auto-paste or press Enter doesn’t work#

  • Pasting for you needs Accessibility permission. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and turn on Macrophone. If it's already on, turn it off and on again after an update.
  • Return is only pressed in apps on your Return list, in the Mac app's Delivery pane.
  • Macrophone never pastes into password fields or while Secure Keyboard Entry is on (some terminals turn it on), and never auto-sends a dictation that was delayed. Those are copied to the clipboard instead.

Sending to an app doesn’t work#

  • “Not pasted · No Terminal tab matching …”: no window or tab matched the profile's window field. Check the spelling, or let Macrophone control Terminal (the profile editor's Allow…) so it can match the program running in a tab. Windows on another desktop (Space) can't be seen. The text is on your clipboard; Try Again once it's fixed.
  • “Not sent · Didn't send — Claude's message box wasn't focused”: the words never reached the message box, so nothing was sent. Make sure the app's window is open, then Try Again.
  • “Pressed Return, but it's still in the message box”: the app was probably still answering. Press Return yourself when it's ready.
  • “Return skipped”: the app isn't on your Return list. The profile editor offers an Add button for it.

More in App targeting.

Cleanup is missing or greyed out#

Cleanup uses Apple's on-device model. It needs:

  • An iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later.
  • iOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri. The model may need a while to download after you turn it on.
  • English as the dictation language. Other languages get the raw transcript.

mp says it can’t connect#

  • Exit code 3: Macrophone for Mac isn't running, or its API is turned off in its Developer pane.
  • Exit code 4: the token changed. Run the command again; it re-reads the token from the app's config file.
  • A browser or browser extension can't reach the API. That's on purpose. See browser lockdown.

Share diagnostics#

A diagnostics log helps find connection problems quickly. It contains the app version, your OS and device model, pairing steps, connection errors and delivery results. It never contains what you dictated, your pairing keys or your API token, and you can read it before you send it.

  • iPhone: in Macrophone, open Settings › Diagnostics, read the log if you like, and tap Share Diagnostics.
  • Mac: open Macrophone's window from the menu bar, go to General, and choose Share Diagnostics….

Send it to macrophone@sameer.us with a sentence about what happened.
