Macrophone

Version history

Release notes for Macrophone for Mac. The app updates itself; you can always get the latest from the download page.

1.0 — First release

  • Receive dictations from Macrophone on iPhone over your local network, paired once with a QR code or a six-digit code.
  • Clipboard and notification, clipboard only, or auto-paste into the app you’re using, with your clipboard restored afterwards.
  • App targeting: send a dictation straight into Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Terminal, iTerm2, Ghostty, Warp, Slack or any app. Macrophone finds the message box, pastes, checks the words arrived and presses send, after a 2.5-second countdown you can cancel. Ready-made targets for Claude, Claude Code (Terminal), ChatGPT and Cursor.
  • Pick the window or tab by its title, or in Terminal by the program running in it, so “claude” finds the tab running Claude Code. Choose the send key (Return or ⌘ Return) and whether to go back to where you were.
  • Voice prefixes (“Claude, …”), per-app rules for dictations your iPhone sends on Automatic, snippets, output formats, and templates with context variables such as the selection, the window title and the browser’s URL.
  • Type into a tmux pane; save to Obsidian, Apple Notes or Reminders; Ask Claude with your own Anthropic API key, with the reply in the panel, on the clipboard, in History and in the API.
  • Profiles: a cleanup level, where the text goes, what happens next, scripts and webhooks. A send key only in apps on your Return list, never into a password field.
  • A history of the last 50 dictations, raw and cleaned, kept only on your Mac. Clear it or turn it off.
  • A local API on 127.0.0.1, the macrophone / mp command-line tool and an MCP server.
  • Open Macrophone from anywhere with a global shortcut (⌥⌘M by default), even with the menu bar icon hidden.
  • Dictations queued on the phone while the Mac was away arrive later, labeled as delayed and never auto-sent.
  • Automatic updates.

The iPhone app updates through the App Store. Its notes are on its App Store page.
